Biography

Dr. Walter C. Jean is Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Skull Base Surgery at George Washington University. A native of Hong Kong, he is a graduate of Princeton University and Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Jean completed neurosurgical residency at the University of Minnesota, and fellowship training in Skull Base Surgery at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Jean earned his credentials in medical education during his 7-year tenure as Program Director at Georgetown University, where he led the neurosurgery residency program to double its size. His current interest is in the globalization of skull base training. To this end, he and like-minded colleagues formed the Global Brainsurgery Initiative to enhance neurosurgical education in developing nations bring with the latest techniques and technologies.

Dr. Jean lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Maria , and their two indefatigable boys, Sebastian and Adrian. While fatherhood has forced him to retire from being a soccer player and semi-professional singer, it has enhanced his love for Italian wines.
