Biography

Dr. Connell, valedictorian of Gordo Alabama High School, majored in chemical engineering at the University of Alabama. He received a scholarship to major in pharmacy at Samford University and obtained his degree in 1948, following military service as a combat infantryman in Italy in WWII (1946). He completed medical school at the University of Buffalo in 1952, then interned at LA County General Hospital before undergoing a general surgery residency at the University of Buffalo, followed by a residency in plastic surgery at the Rochester Mayo Clinic.

He entered private practice Santa Ana, California, in 1957, and he served as Chief of Plastic at Orange County General Hospital and later as clinical professor of surgery (plastic) at the University of California-Irvine. His contributions include many years of local and international charity work and time spent teaching reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He has been a visiting professor at many teaching centers and has a named lectureship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
