Biography

Barbara Jacobson, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and the Associate Director of Medical Speech-Language Pathology at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center. She has been working in medical speech-language pathology and voice disorders since 1986. Dr. Jacobson developed (along with other colleagues) the Voice Handicap Index (VHI). Her research and clinical interests include functional outcomes in communication and swallowing disorders, voice manifestations of neurological disease, speech pathology practice in acute care, and patient-reported outcome measures.
