
Biography
Dr. Albert L. Rhoton (1932 - 2016), internationally recognized as the father of microscopic neurosurgery, worked as staff at the Mayo Clinic and became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Florida in 1972. Dr. Rhoton served as President of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
As the R.D. Keene Family professor of neurological surgery at the College of Medicine and the McKnight Brain Institute, Dr. Rhoton received the highest honors given by neurological organizations, including the 2001 Medal of Honor from the World Federation of Neurological Societies and the 1998 Cushing Medal, granted by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He was elected to Honorary Membership in neurosurgical societies on six continents. He published more than 500 scientific papers and 4 books.
